Next Meeting

Asheville Chapter will meet as usual at Care Partners on Saturday, the 18th of February at 10:30 a.m.

The State of North Carolina has in Asheville an office of its Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This is a useful resource to have right here. They are able to give a single hearing aid and some other items to people who qualify economically, but they also have devices and services that are available to everyone with hearing loss, and they advise anyone about devices they might be considering purchasing.

One such free service is a card you can have in your car that alerts a policeman to your hearing issue. No, it doesn't let you off the hook, but it can prevent sometimes dire misunderstandings!

"Marilyn Edwards, who this week was appointed to the leadership of that office, as Hard of Hearing Services Specialist, and has long been its Telecommunications Specialist, will speak at the HLAA Asheville Chapter's meeting on Saturday, 18 February at 10.30 a.m. at Care Partners. She'll address the devices they offer or advise about (they'll even lend some for people to try), and the services they render.

"All are welcome. Click here for more information."

Area Served

The HLAA Asheville Chapter serves Asheville and the surrounding areas of North Carolina. We welcome anyone who can attend our meetings.

If you have a hearing loss, or care about someone who does, or if you serve or support the hearing loss community as a professional or volunteer, then please plan to connect through HLAA and our Asheville chapter with others who are sharing through presentations and social interaction what they've learned about making the most of their hearing. Family and friends are also welcome.

Accessibility

We expect that Computer Assisted Real Time (CART) or Computer Assisted Notetaking (CAN) services will normally be available for meetings, so the text of whatever is said will be visible to all attendees to make sure you don't miss anything. We are also now looped and have effective sound.
